ÉireComposites

Established in 1998, ÉireComposites operates an accredited composites design, manufacturing and testing facility in Galway, Ireland. With over 60 employees, ÉireComposites has in-depth expertise and experience in supplying the aviation, space, renewables and mobility sectors. ÉireComposites has a highly skilled research team in place, with a proven track record in research and innovation for composite structure and technology. ÉireComposites has co-ordinated and partnered on multiple EU and Irish-funded research projects, winning JEC World Innovation Awards in both 2016 and 2024.

ÉireComposites will leverage this experience to ensure CARBOWAVE’s results fit the industrial requirements and demonstrate the projects applicability in WP9 through the manufacture of a 2m wind turbine blade using the microwave and plasma heated carbon fibre.

Dr. Tomás Flanagan

CEO and Managing Director

Tomás Flanagan joined ÉireComposites in 2014 as R&D Director and was promoted to CEO in 2018. He has a PhD on Engineering Project Management from the University of Cambridge and has secured and managed over €20m in research funding. He has led significant projects funded by Horizon Europe, ESA, and Enterprise Ireland. Tomás has travelled extensively and lived in the UK, the USA, Germany, and Norway. He has extensive skills in manufacturing complex products using composite materials, especially for aerospace, tidal energy, and wind energy. Prior to joining ÉireComposites, Tomás worked for BP and Boeing.

Conor Kelly

Engineering Team Lead

Conor Kelly joined ÉireComposites in 2020 as a project engineer with a First-Class Honours Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick. He has since become Engineering Team Lead and has a proven track record leading national and European funded R&D projects in both the aerospace and renewable energy sectors. Conor has significant experience processing both thermoset and thermoplastic composites to produce small-scale aerospace demonstrators and large-scale wind turbine blade prototypes. He is currently leading several projects relating to wind and tidal turbine blades.

Pamela Byrne

R&D Engineer

Pamela Byrne joined ÉireComposites in 2024 as an R&D engineer with a First-Class Honours ME in Materials Science and Engineering from University College Dublin. She is currently leading projects, at both national and EU level, researching sustainable materials for the wind energy sector.
